Seized clevis pins are underestimated.

There are thousands of wheel ends on the road right now with seized clevis pins. A seized clevis pin forves automatic slack adjusters to work harder with underperforming brake force — that is directly related to seized clevis pins.


A seized clevis pin can cause brake binding and loss of brake force.

All automatic slack adjusters manufacturers recommend that the clevis pin must always be free to rotate, so not to cause brake binding and loss of brake force. To keep the clevis pin from seizing means continuous maintenance or even removal of the clevis pin to apply an anti-seize compound. The other alternative is expensive greasable clevis pins that still need continuous greasing maintenance.

Removing a seized clevis pin is a time consuming process where often a mechanic’s only option is to remove the clevis pin by using a hammer or a torch. This means unwanted stress and heat are applied to the slack adjuster’s internal working parts with potential damage to the slack adjuster.

HOW IT WORKS

The ANTI-SEIZE COTTER PIN™ holds the clevis pin stationary, as the brakes are applied forcing the slack adjuster bushing to rotate around the clevis pin each time the brake is applied.  
    Without these rotations, the clevis pin can become permanently seized due to corrosion on the contacting metal surfaces.

The Anti-Seize Cotter Pin keeps the cotter pin from seizing to the bore hole of the clevis pin because of the stainless steel properties and tension reflection movement between the cotter pin and the clevis pin bore hole.

Existing cotter pins at times seize to the clevis bore hole where a hammer and a punch is the only solution.
